Alberta Wind Energy Corporation (AWEC) was formed in 2003 to develop independent wind farm projects. Thus far, the Company has focused its efforts principally in the Pincher Creek area of southern Alberta, Canada. The area in which the wind farms are being constructed is commonly recognized as one of the best operating areas for wind projects, with sites boasting higher capacity utilization factors than many other projects in other parts of Canada. Some of the existing wind farms in the area include:
The Company is currently focused on developing three sites, taking a staged approach to power generation and shareholder value creation. In addition, the Company currently owns and operates two wind power turbines, with a capacity of 3.6 MW. To date, Alberta Wind has raised privately approximately $15,000,000 of equity and convertible debentures and currently has 6,200,000 fully diluted shares outstanding. In March 2009, Alberta Wind Energy signed a partnership agreement with Luxembourg Mainstream Renewable Power S.A.R.L, a subsidiary of Mainstream Renewable Power Limited of Ireland, for the development of the Oldman River Phase 2, Windy Point and Waterton projects. Alberta Wind Energy and Mainstream may also endeavor to co-develop future opportunities in the Province of Alberta. The AWEC team continues efforts to lease additional locations for future developments. Alberta Wind Energy is an active member of the Canadian Wind Energy Association (CANWEA) |
